Two stars of the Netflix series “Cobra Kai” confirmed their romantic relationship for the first time Wednesday night — with engagement rings.
Tanner Buchanan and Mary Mouser posed together at the show’s series finale event in Los Angeles, each flashing sparkly rings on their left ring fingers. Many fans were confused upon seeing the photos, some wondering if the couple was married.
Netflix posted a photo of them together Thursday, confirming that the actors are engaged.
It was a shocking revelation for even some of the show’s most loyal followers, because while many suspected the two might be a couple, they’d never confirmed to the public they were dating.
Buchanan and Mouser shared a joint Instagram post after Netflix’s confirmation, writing that they were “so happy” to finally share the news.
“This is such a special moment in our lives, the closing of one chapter and celebrating the continuation of another,” the caption said. “We’re so grateful for the love and support, and though we’re partial to having our private moments, we’re excited to share this check-in to our world.”
Fans on social media celebrated the “hard launch,” with one X user stating it was the best they’d ever seen.
The actors’ friendship was well-known, as the two have had parallel career trajectories for years. Both Buchanan and Mouser were on Disney Channel as kids and even guest starred on the same ABC Family show, “The Fosters.”
The two have also been vital members of “Cobra Kai,” Netflix’s revival series inspired by the famed “The Karate Kid” film series.
Mouser plays Samantha, daughter of the movies’ original protagonist Daniel LaRusso. Buchanan stars as Robby Keene, whose father Johnny Lawrence played the villain in the first film.
Though their characters aren’t together in the long term, Samantha is the center of a love triangle with Robby and another character during “Cobra Kai” season two.
The show is celebrating the final installment of its sixth and final season, which premiered Thursday.
