Andrew Garfield just opened up about suffering from a identity crisis in his mid-20s.
In his latest interview with GQ Hype, the 41-year-old discussed how he had spent his life “living and dying by external validation,” and then began to re-examine his life.
Despite him receiving world wide fame for various roles that he portrayed in his career and even earned an Oscar nod, Garfield admitted how award season had started affecting his mood so much that he went to see a therapist.
“I was living and dying by external validation, when I’m getting nominated for an award, I feel great. When I lose that award, I feel like s***,” The Amazing Spiderman star explained.
“And I was like, ‘This is unsustainable. This is not how I want to live my life… I can’t be so dependent on things that are outside of my control. I want to know there’s something eternal in me, that my worthiness is not dependent on whether or not you like me,’” Andrew Garfield further mentioned, as he detailed the moment of his epiphany.
