Jackie Chan reflects on ‘Karate Kid: Legends’ training

Jackie Chan gets honest about training in ‘Karate Kid: Legends’

Jackie Chan is familiar with the Karate Kid universe. So, for its new entry, he said, he doesn’t need training.

In a chat with Variety, the star said, “I don’t need to anymore. I’ve been training every day for 64 years. I’ve been fighting, fighting, fighting.”

The megastar is known for doing his stunts. But, at 72, he said, “I’m not liked I used to be when I was 20, and could do a triple kick in the sky. Now, I do one kick.”

But to his co-star Wang, the new face of Karate Kid, Jackie said he shared an important lesson. “I said, ‘Ben, we do have a double for you, but you should do your own thing. The audience respects you more. When you use a double, you become lazy.’”

Elsewhere in the interview, the director Jonathan Entwistle weighed in on the latest martial arts movie blends different styles.

“I feel like this film understands a really specific and fundamental difference between Hong Kong martial arts, which is all about the choreography and the moves, and American martial arts where it’s all about basically punching,” he said.

Karate Kid: Legends is running in theatres.
